NHS TRUSTECH® Chairman Part time
TRUSTECH® is centred in Manchester but with bases in Liverpool and Preston. It was set up to audit, protect and develop the Intellectual Property developed by the staff of the NHS in the North West Area. This includes medical devices, bioscience and related technologies. TRUSTECH also assists in exploitation of the identified technology through licenses, joint ventures or start up enterprises. It is one of a number of NHS regional intellectual property innovation "hubs".
Activities of TRUSTECH include
- Provision of various training courses in connection with intellectual property and its management for NHS staff.
- Identifying innovations within the NHS, which save costs, improve patient care or address other issues, and promoting these across the NHS system.
- Providing "proof of concept funding" to develop promising innovations created by NHS staff and organisations.
- The commercial services department of TRUSTECH provides a focal point for SME companies wishing to work with the NHS, particularly those companies wishing to prove the efficacy of their products in the NHS market.
- In 2008 TRUSTECH commenced the first of the Smart Solutions projects. Various non-traditional NHS suppliers were invited to identify technologies that might reduce hospital-acquired infections. Over 240 technologies were reviewed, and trials were undertaken of the most promising. The project was widely recognised as a success. In 2012 Smart Solutions for Healthcare is addressing two new healthcare priority areas - Cardiovascular Disease and Long Term Conditions. For further details see www.smartsolutionsforhc.co.uk
- MIMIT - Manchester Integrating Medical Innovative Technologies - TRUSTECH promoted and actively supports this franchise with the University of Boston. It is designed to pinpoint medical technology problems, identify a specialist team to address the problems and then project manage the team to solve the identified issues.
- Increasingly we recognise the need for better international co-operation and benchmarking. We are working actively with overseas companies and have international links across Europe.
- TRUSTECH is a leading partners in a cross Europe healthcare project, which is presently seeking a European funding grant. Other Eupean projects are being persued.
